# 18 PURPOSE OF BELIEFS

Beliefs form to relieve the conscious mind of overwhelming thought abilities.  Their purpose is to the hold the structure of already amassed information.  Beliefs are passive in nature.  They can be pushed to the back corners of the mind and allowed to collect other like thoughts unsupervised.  The conscious mind is then free to pursue active spontaneous thought.
Your beliefs are loyal to you.  They are the guards to the Universal Mind.  Recall I said earlier that you have guards in place to protect the Universal Mind from the spontaneity of thought?  Your guards are your beliefs.  They are likewise your most energized thoughts.  Thus they both extract physical form from the Universal Mind and protect the Universal Mind.  If you didn’t hold beliefs, you would easily become overwhelmed with inconsistent thought.  Beliefs screen thoughts holding form true to already assimilated information.
Your reality is formed by your thoughts.  Beliefs are the nests of those thoughts and are responsible for maintaining the reality you experience.  What you experience is a projection of those beliefs. You can imagine the chaos your life would turn into if your thoughts did not compound into beliefs.  Imagine having to constantly rethink your religious views, your moral values and your professional aspirations.  Nothing about you would remain intact.  But you do remain intact and so does everything around you because it is cemented by your beliefs.
Beliefs provide the stable foundation from which other thoughts build upon.  Like thoughts attract not only other like thoughts but offshoots of similar thoughts.  Multiple beliefs can grow from an initial thought instigator.  For example, you may have developed a belief early on as a child on the paths money takes to reach you.  As a belief developed that money comes from paychecks, you may have had a thought that the harder you work the more money you make.  As these thoughts trickled in, other offshoots of thoughts may have sprung such as aggressive people make more money or people who work little get less.  Soon you had very specific beliefs on how money is made and how it is distributed:  through the hard work of a weekly pay check.
At the same time you were building specific thoughts on the ways money is earned, you were repelling thoughts that did not coincide with these beliefs.  Thoughts that money has many paths or requires little effort to obtain would have been rejected by you.  Your experience would then follow.  You would indulge in hard work to earn money.  You would only see ways in which money was earned through hard work solidifying your belief all while avoiding routes of earning money in less cumbersome ways.  Examples of people earning money in easier methods would be looked upon by you as extreme exceptions to your rule; the one in a million chance.  Hence those one in a million chances would become unbelievable opportunities for you.  You would not pursue what you believed to be a long shot.
Your beliefs grow in certain ways depending upon the thoughts you allow.  Thoughts that conflict with the mature belief are expelled.  Your experiences then are produced only from the structure of your beliefs.  In the example, your experience follows a specific path; you work hard to secure assets.  It does not occur to you to secure assets in other ways.  Your beliefs guard you against alternate paths.
The purpose of beliefs, therefore, is to effectively frame in your experiences so your reality is a reliable framework to work within.  However, you are not meant to work entirely within one framework.  Frameworks provide the physical parameters that hold your current form.  You are free to change your framework of experiences through fresh thought and beliefs.  The only reason you do not, is because you are unaware of how you created this framework to begin with.  If you understood the process, you could alter your experience by building a new house of beliefs.
A framework of validated beliefs imposes experiences directed by your thoughts.  You cannot experience that which goes against your beliefs.  Beliefs are highly magnetic thoughts that attract onto you like thoughts and experiences.  Any thoughts or experiences to the contrary are repelled.  That is why understanding what you believe is essential to altering experiences.
If a belief is held that money comes to you only under certain conditions, such as a paycheck, other means in which money can be obtained will not occur to you.  These ideas will not occur to you because your belief system is nudging them out of the nest.  How many times have you heard yourself say, I never would have thought of that?  You will not as long as your beliefs stand guard.  They repel contrary thoughts just as easily as they attract like thoughts.
Certainly you are free to entertain what would be unusual thoughts for you because the conscious mind does have free will of thoughts.  While money earned through hard work is a belief you hold, you are free to consider other methods of earning money (such as investing options).  However, you will not entertain these thoughts long term.  They will seem more like impossibilities to you because you will not allow the supporting thoughts to grow.  So while the mind is free to roam, it easily sticks to the trails it has been treading.
Beliefs remain intact and unchallenged until an opposing belief whittles the collection of thoughts away.  Realize our beliefs do change over time, however, or we would all still believe holding our mother’s hand was necessary to cross the street safely.
Active spontaneous and imaginative thought when allowed free roaming ability can pursue constructive beliefs and discharge adverse beliefs.  That is why it is very important to promote rather than stymie our imaginations.  When you allow beliefs to confine your thought process they become your artificial barriers.  When constructive thoughts are not permitted or considered your situation holds.  If you do not allow yourself to think of alterations to the current you, then the current you is what keeps returning.  If you think in terms of this is my life nothing can change it or if you think you are at the mercy of your job or health or economy, and argue that fact, then opportunity will not reflect back to you.  If you believe in your abilities, and that is all that is necessary to promote new thoughts, one will trickle then another and soon you will think maybe I could change that and then you do.
Without beliefs chaos would ensure.  Beliefs are the cohesiveness to the reality you experience.  They are your glue.  Whatever you believe about yourself, others, your world, your opportunities or your lack of opportunity is drawn to you.  And it sticks!  If it did not hold form, you would be in a constant state of upheaval.  Imagine not having any beliefs; no thoughts on relationships, safety, friendship, or work.  To that degree, beliefs provide you with a stable environment by giving you consolidated thoughts on matters in which you can effectively operate.
Your purpose is creative.  Your intent is to learn through creativity.  Beliefs frame your creative mental images creating a consistent backdrop for enrichment to occur.  Your experiences within the framework of your beliefs provide that enrichment.  You can steer out of your framework once you understand that the structure does not hold you, but rather you hold the structure.
