GERMINATION OF THOUGHT
Like a well tended garden, thoughts planted and cultivated grow richly.
A tended garden matures and sprinkles its seeds about securing its survival through perpetual growth of its kind. Thoughts germinate in exactly the same way. The first sprinkled thoughts, when cared for and tended to grow. As they grow, they solidify into ideas that spark the growth of your imagination. Thoughts form beliefs which cloak you in armor both beneficial and detrimental depending upon how the original seeds planted coincide with the direction you wish to pursue. Thoughts are not bad or good, only restrictive in that they build beliefs that confine you to experiences within the parameter of the belief.
You must always then plant your seeds of thought with great care. You do not have to monitor each thought that slips through your awareness like a watch guard. To do so would quickly overwhelm you as the mind is capable of thinking thoughts in grandeur.
Changing your experience requires you to change your predominant thoughts. Thoughts fall within predictable patterns as we have talked about. In statistics, a Bell Shaped Curve is a graphical representation of averages. We can use it here to demonstrate conceptually how your thoughts work. First, let’s understand Bell Shaped Curves with a simple illustration.
If you track certain random data, you will find that it falls within a predictable range. Examples of predictable data include: tallying hours of television watched in a week, calories consumed in a day, miles driven in a car each year. The greatest amount of people’s behavioral patterns fall within a similar range (20-25 hours of television watched in a week, 2000 calorie a day intake, 20,000 miles driven annually).
This graph illustrates the Hours of Television Watched per week with the Number of People. Notice that the Number of People swells around the Median: 20-25 hours of television watched per week. The amount of People tapers off in either direction from the median, 20-25 hours per week. This graph is for illustration purposes only.
If you map certain random items you will discover most people fall within a particular range with the greatest percentage of people falling within a similar range. For example, suppose you examined the number of hours of television watched per week. You would discover most people fall within a range of 10-35 hours of television watched per week with the greatest percentage of people likely falling within a similar range such as 20-25 hours weekly. The further out you stray from that “normal” range the fewer people fall into that category; very few people would fall into categories of watching zero hours or over perhaps, 60 hours.
The data graphed takes the form of a bell shaped pattern swelling at the point most people fall (20-25 hours), like the summit of Mount Everest; tapering off in either direction towards its minimum value (0) in one direction and extreme values (60 hours and over) in the other direction. Normal distribution of data means that most of the examples in a set of data are close to the "average," while relatively few examples tend to occur at one extreme or the other, which give the data its Bell-Shape appearance; many data points in the middle of the graph and fewer at the "edges."
Your thoughts plotted resemble a Bell-Shaped Curve. They have random ability yet fall within predictable patterns; occasional moments of enthusiasm or depression representing your outliers. But these outbursts (enthusiasm or depression) are not your normal patterned thinking habits. As a norm, your pattern of thought is predictable and habitual. You think about the same things all the time. You are an effective recycler of thoughts.
This graph illustrates the Number of Potential Thoughts per Day with the energized frequency of each thought. Your thoughts swell around your core beliefs tapering off in either direction. The (-) represents a negative frequency while (+) represent a positive frequency. Your thoughts form constructively and destructively around your Core Beliefs. Thoughts with extreme frequencies appear very little. For example, you would have few thoughts with a -1000 frequency. Conversely, you would few extremely positive thoughts with a +1000 frequency. This graph is for illustration purposes only.
In fact, your thinking is so habitual, that you could list upon inspection your most frequent categorical thoughts. Your list of repeat offenders probably falls in the patterns of these thought groupings: you think about your current job, present financial situation, relationships with other people including your family, coworkers, friends and neighbors, you think about your state of health, your to do list, problems you face, and the tedious tendencies of your life (boredom, unhappiness, things in your life you do not like), your weekend plans. Predominant thoughts may include larger doses in any of these given areas. The point is you think about your life how it currently presents itself with the occasional wishful thought or daydream. You are in a perpetual cycle of returning to yourself exactly what you have already produced; you think about your life as it exists now all the time, which is exactly why nothing changes.
People who have achieved success have different thought patterns. Success is triumph, achievement, realization, victory, freedom, abundance, happiness and love. It does not necessarily mean monetary gain or professional gain which we so often equate it to, but it could if that is what you seek. Whatever it is you endeavor to create is what you want to succeed at, so you get to define what success means to you. There has been much hypothesized about wealthy people’s thoughts. Wealthy people are frequently suspect of thinking differently than the average Joe on the block. I would agree that they do think differently. However, happy people think differently than sad people, professionally successful people think differently than the professionally unsuccessful, healthy people think differently than unhealthy people, right weight people think differently than overweight people. Successful people have different thought patterns.
Now that I have said that successful people have different thought patterns, I want to distinguish between thinking differently and directing your thoughts. Thinking differently is achieved through thought direction. That is why “how you define success” is important; because you can direct your thoughts in similar patterned thinking to that of successful people. The process is repeatable; this is profound! This means if you direct your thoughts towards success, you too can learn to think differently.
Successful people’s thought patterns differ from the unsuccessful in that they contain large doses of successfully cultivated thoughts. These “successful thoughts” were allowed to grow. That is the only difference between “you” and “them.” The person you see as successful cultivated the successful thoughts. Period! Any reason could be given for the successful thoughts occurring to them instead of you. They may have received encouragement from just the right person or a lack of discouragement. They may have had little failure early on and so were not afraid to try. Maybe they received a lot of disappointment, let down and frustration early on making them unafraid to keep trying. It does not really matter the reason. At some point in their lives they began directing their thoughts towards success. For some it was early on, others much later. The point is they continued to direct their thoughts along the path of success. They did not allow their thoughts to wallow long in their current state of affairs. Since you are able to direct your thoughts, you too can steer them down the same paths.
This graph illustrates what a successful person’s thoughts might look like. Successful Thoughts are not capped by Core Beliefs. Thoughts are allowed to grow exponentially unrestricted. Frequencies may also differ. Less destructive thoughts means room for more constructive thoughts. This graph is for illustrations purposes only.
People who are abundant think of all they are grateful for having while people who lack think about what they do not have. Thoughts collect. Thoughts grow; patterned thinking forms and reality presents itself. It is not because life ushered success and abundance upon somebody other than you. It is your thought patterns that differ. You can achieve success and abundance as well by progressively moving your distribution of patterned thoughts in the direction of success and abundance.
Your current experiences are on your current frequency and stay easily because they have already been drawn to you. Thought holds form unless it is redirected. Just like trees stay together and air stays together and your skin remains intact to some degree. Once something is attracted, it is unified. Just like the frozen chicken and the ice cube trays we talked about earlier. Both the chicken and ice cubes hold their form unless something acts upon that form.
Returning to our concept of a successful person, their thoughts did not stray from successfully patterned thinking. With nothing obstructing their successful thought growth, thoughts grew into unstoppable super-sized beliefs. All that was on the frequency of success was attracted to them. Often it is easy to retreat to excuses such as: I did not have the same upbringing, talent, opportunity, education, chance, great parents, money, time, fill in the blank with your excuse. It does not matter what you did not have or do not have. What you think from this day forward is in your control and that is all that matters. Attracting different experiences requires effort. You must think differently to attract different results. You cannot expect to dig yourself out of a hole with the same thoughts that dug the hole.
The seeds you have been planting and continue to plant are the fruits of your experiences now. Your experiences will not change without being worked upon by energy. New thoughts are that form of energy. New thoughts are the catalyst energy needed to dethrone your old thoughts.
New thought energy must be actively employed on a very regular basis to be effective. An occasional fresh thought or two is of no match to the energized power of the sovereign thoughts currently reigning. Realize thoughts are energy. A small thought rifled is of no match to the atomic power contained in your currently held thoughts and beliefs. Thoughts protect their survival just as in larger form we protect our survival.
How do you redirect your thoughts with enough punch power to disarm your current beliefs? Well, we would get ahead of ourselves if that question were answered now. We will get to that later, I promise. First, we must get comfortable with our own thoughts before we begin punch bagging them.
